Dr. James E. Buckthal has provided quality orthodontic care to patients in the Raleigh, North Carolina area since 1988. He obtained his doctorate degree in dentistry from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1984, and he obtained a Master of Science in Orthodontics from the University of North Carolina Department of Orthodontics in 1986. Dr. Buckthal holds the Shepard Award of Distinction for achieving the highest score on the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Buckthal feels it is important to stay on the cutting-edge of his field. Thus, he maintains professional memberships with the American Association of Orthodontists, North Carolina Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, and the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society. Dr. Buckthal is a past-president of the North Carolina Association of Orthodontists and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

Dr. Buckthal has volunteered with several charitable organizations, including Wake Smiles Dental Clinic, Open Door Dental Clinic, Urban Ministries, Mission of Mercy, and Haiti Outreach Ministry. He is also a member and elder at White Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, golf, snow skiing, boating, and traveling with his wife Amy and their two children, Forrest and Anna Carson. He is an active member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
